What the Summer Heat Means for Refrigerants

This summer, it’s not just people that are going on vacation. Your HVAC system might be taking a break from working as well! Why? The summer heat is killer for refrigerants. All that refrigerants really do, when it gets down to it, is move heat around. Your commercial HVAC unit takes heat from your workplace and attempts to move it outside. But during the summer, that becomes more difficult—a refrigeration system relies on being able to release heat into the outside air. Your HVAC unit can’t dump that heat when the outside air is almost as hot as the heat being transported by your refrigerants!

What can happen in this case? Your HVAC system can lose efficiency and your refrigerants, the very things which transport that heat, won’t be able to go through the cycle of heating and cooling that allow them to do their job. Instead, they’ll stay hot for a majority of the time, hotter than they’re supposed to be. This can result in the HVAC system itself breaking down or leaching contaminants into the refrigerant, dirtying it and making it even more inefficient. This is especially dangerous for older refrigerants such as R-22, which are being phased out by 2020. So, what is our best course of action? How do we solve two problems at once—summer HVAC inefficiency and the refrigerant phase-out—while not breaking the bank? We think your best bets are refrigerant reclamation or recovery.

Reclamation

Reclamation is the reprocessing of used refrigerants to meet or exceed purity specifications and standards for new refrigerant gases. The reprocessing includes filtering, drying, distillation and other chemical procedures that remove impurities. After undergoing through all these extensively, the refrigerants can then be used for consumer or industrial applications.  Reclaimed refrigerants can also be resold. It is crucial that refrigerant reclamation only be performed by an EPA-certified refrigerant reclaimer. Along with reclamation services, we also offer extensive and detailed documentation in accordance with EPA regulations.

Buy-Back

Under our buy-back program, we recover used, contaminated, or even burnt refrigerants and pay you for them. With this hassle-free program we give you several options: we either give you back good-as-new refrigerants, buy them from you, or exchange them for another EPA-approved type of refrigerant. When recovering your refrigerants, we make sure to squeeze every last bit of remaining refrigerant while removing contaminants which may still be present. This is our way of making sure that you get the highest value for your refrigerants.

Additionally, we work quickly and efficiently so that your daily business operations are not interrupted or hampered. To avoid accidents like leaks or unnecessary waste, we separate the refrigerant from the contaminants using cutting-edge technology to ensure that we extract the highest purity and volume possible.

Clean Exchange

Our clean exchange program enables you to swap your expired or otherwise useless refrigerant containers with clean, up-to-date and DOT certified cylinders. We handle all kinds of cylinders ranging from full to empty and we retrieve even those that have expired. Not only that, we pay you for every drop of refrigerant that we can recover from them. We are well-equipped to handle containers of all sizes starting from 30 pounds to as much as 125 pounds. Our operation takes care of everything from pickup, consolidation and delivery. On top of that, we offer complete and detailed EPA documentation for all clients.

This summer we think you should play it safe, especially when it comes to your refrigerants. Get in touch with us so we can discuss your options for refrigerant recovery and removal. Not only are all these procedures extremely technical, they also come with risks that only licensed, highly-trained professionals are prepared to deal with. In fact, it’s even illegal for non-authorized personnel to recover and dispose of R-22 refrigerants. Do you need a trusted, well-known refrigerant reclamation company to take care of all this for you? We’re here to help.
